Getting to Know Hiedi
You can often find me helping at Bend UpStyle, a furniture store owned by my daughter and son in law, Keri and Andy Elliott. Often I hear Keri refer to furniture as mid-century modern. Well, that pretty much describes me! I retired in 2013, moved to Bend, OR, and live with the kids along with four of my grandchildren.
My life journey turned out way different than what I planned. I got married right out of high school and planned to stay in that marriage until old age. But a painful divorce came 5 years later. I remarried 2 years later and enjoyed 32 years with my husband, Karl. During our marriage we walked through the unexpected death of my 16-year-old daughter, we experienced some turbulent years of marriage, adjusted to a long distance relationship with a daughter that married and moved away, the death of my parents and then a diagnosis of kidney cancer that caused Karl's death.
I grew up in the home a home of Christian beliefs. I experienced God in my life at an early age but walked away from Him in my teen years. However, I never stopped believing in His existence and eventually at 30 years of age rededicated my life to loving and serving Him. Many times I experienced deep pain of suffering losses but I can testify to God's faithfulness, provision, and hope in my life. He filled me with resilience and a new sense of adventure.
