Over the last couple of years, we have become a dog family. The funny thing about dogs is they only know what they know, and they don't let anything else bother them. Take this giant bean bag for instance... Here's what they know - it's a great place to curl up and eat a biscuit. Here's what they don't know - it cost $250. Pretty spendy dining area for a dog but that goes to the second thing they don't know - it's not for them. These dogs live with the belief they can use anything we own as if it was their own. They're never worried about whether they're worthy of it or deserve it. They were adopted into our home and living with us includes all of the benefits. It all makes me wonder how many of God's blessings we miss out on because we haven't accepted them as part of the adoption package? What if we did away with everything we know - we don't deserve His blessings, we aren't worthy, we shouldn't, we can't, He won't, and every other "n't" we have come to know and accept. Would it be too presumptuous of us to live as if everything God has is available to us as if everything came with our adoption into His family? The Bible is pretty clear that we have permission to do exactly that! "Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?" Romans 8:32 We all come to Jesus with a history of living under the rule of an abusive master. The devil promises is a taker. In fact, the Bible says he is looking to "steal, kill, and destroy". It's easy to bring the same expectation into our walk with Jesus. Don't do it, He has better plans for us! His plans are to give us "life and life more abundantly". If you've been living in the corner of God's house afraid to expect anything good in your life it's time to let go of your past experiences with the devil. Let God be good in your life. Accept His amazing grace and all the abundance He has for you. Receive the truth of what He's really done for you. When you received Jesus you received everything else He has because He came to bring you life and life abundantly. |
